Cycle of Major Keys
The graphic below represents the 12 major scales/keys and the sharps or flats which they contain.
The number of sharps or flats in a key is fixed and is referred to as the key signature.
C major for example has no sharps or flats, Gmajor has one sharp, Dmajor 2 sharps etc.
Where a scale/key can have two different names, ie B or Cb, F# or Gb and C# or Db,
I have included them in this chart. There are however only 12 different notes used in western music so even though these ENHARMONIC ( same notes different names) keys are here, there are only 12 major scales/keys in western music.
