                                                             Intervals

The distance in-between one note and another is called an interval.

The smallest possible interval in western music is called either a semi-tone or a half-tone or half-step.

On the guitar fretboard it is the distance from one fret to the very next, either up or down, on the same string.

If you put two of these together the interval is called a tone or a whole-tone or a whole-step

Here are the rest of the basic intervals up an octave. They continue on up to 9ths 10ths 11ths 12ths and 13ths etc..

but here I want to keep it simple. The larger intervals will be covered in lessons and advanced chord theory.
